Surfer Safety Spotlight

For a perfect and safe surf session, keep these local coastal rules in mind:

Rip Currents

Be aware of strong rip currents in Hikkaduwa and Arugam Bay. Always surf with a buddy or near a lifeguard station.

Reef Hazards

Reef breaks can be shallow and sharp. Wear booties if surfing at Rams or Benny's to prevent coral cuts.

Tropical Sun

The Sri Lankan sun is intense. Use reef-safe ZINC or high SPF sunblock and stay hydrated between sessions.

Sri Lanka is a hidden gem for surfers, offering pristine beaches, consistent waves, and warm waters. With a variety of surf spots catering to beginners, intermediate, and advanced surfers, it is an ideal destination for a surf tour. This guide provides a comprehensive signature itinerary for a 10-day surf experience in Sri Lanka, covering the best spots, accommodation, and local vibes.

Pro Tip: Choosing the Right Coast

Sri Lanka has two distinct surf seasons. For a 10-day trip, pick one coast based on your travel dates to avoid flat waters or long cross-country drives:

  • November – April: Stick to the Southwest Coast (Hikkaduwa, Weligama, Mirissa).
  • May – September: Head straight to the East Coast (Arugam Bay).

Duration: 10 Days
